The Damning of Lilith

Description

According to Jewish lore, Lilith was the first woman created by god alongside Adam. Unlike Eve, Lilith was created from the earth like Adam, rather than from Adam's rib. Lilith was banished from Eden because she refused to submit to Adam. It is said Lilith was impregnated by the archangel Samael, and spawned what is now known as demons. Lilith is regarded as the first demon, and is known for her appetite for the blood of infants.

Firstly, let me say I really love the striking colors that were used to make this piece. The black to red gradient is lovely and always impacts the eye.

The stark focal point in the middle of the work would undoubtedly, of course, have to be the subject or topic of the piece, otherwise known as Lilith. Her bright pale skin and dark hair in the center of the image draws your eye right to her. She is beautiful and looks almost like an offering to God, splaying her body in what looks to be a defeated fashion, toward him.

The inky spots below her frame (and some above) look reticent of decay or perhaps some dissolving.

The description of the model/subject also adds to the feel of the work, furthering the understand of all the elements that make up its whole.

Vision is certainly bold and unique. Originality is strong, though it seems to be a pose that would be almost expected.. Technique is smooth and concise. Nothing offends my eye. Impact? pushaw... How could one look upon this and say it does not impact you in some fashion? Stunning work!
